Our history

1967
The origin
Jotron Elektronikk AS was founded in 1967 in Levanger, Norway. Initially focused on amplifiers for television antennas, the small electronics company quickly expanded its product range, marking the beginning of an exciting Norwegian technology journey.

1970
Pioneering EPIRB technology
Launching the world’s first certified EPIRB, Tron 1. It could be activated manually or automatically upon contact with water, and was developed as an assignment for the Norwegian authorities.

1975
Starting our ATC story
Delivering its first 50W radio to Telecom Air Navigation (now Avinor), Jotron entered the Air Traffic Control market, setting a new standard with low-level modulation.

1978
Relocating from Levanger to Larvik
The main reason for the move was to be closer to key clients in aviation and maritime sectors. Jotron also sought a larger, more active electronics environment.

1980
Establishing Jotron UK
Demand for products grew beyond Norway, making it difficult to supply the expanding international market from Larvik. It was time to go global! Jotron UK is part of Jotron since 1990. (Olaf Stavik, left and Ian Ross, right)

1989
Certified by COSPAS-SARSAT
Tron 30S, the world’s first 406MHz EPIRB, became the first EPIRB to be COSPAS-SARSAT certified.

1995
Transitioning from single radios to comprehensive systems
Jotron became a supplier of complete solutions, delivering radios together with entire systems such as antennas, filters and remote control equipment.

Establishing Jotron Asia
